Annual Memorial Tournament Entry Open.

Following the success last year, we will be returning to the car park at Saxmundham Sports Club on Sunday 21st August - we had a record 78 entrants last year and raised over £900 for local charities.

Entry is £10 per person payable on the day and format as always will be barrel (each team drawn randomly, one from each ’barrel’) so please let me know if you wish to be placed in barrel as a shooter, middle or pointer - I will endeavour to meet your request but some balancing is usually required !

Please enter email, and remember you are entering as an individual !

Eels Foot Pairs 2022

Entry is open for the 2022 Eels Foot Pairs.

Eels Foot Cup - This year the Eels Foot Cup will take place on 7th August - £10 per pair - please register by email.

This tournament always fills up fast and is first come first served.

As always it will be timed games - once we have final numbers I will confirm exact format.

2022 Summer Plate

Apologies for the delay, but the Summer Plate draw is now available. Where possible we have followed the draw from the main cup, however with some teams dropping out we had a draw for some teams to fill these spots. This was carried out by Val from the Worlygigs team.

Three-Way Festival of Petanque

Saturday 9th & Sunday 10th July 2022
Suffolk Coastal v Mercia v CJB Middelburg (Holland)

As I am sure your Captains have already told you following the Leagues Rep Meeting a few months back, we have our friends from Mercia Region visiting us as well as our dear friends from CJB Middelburg coming over to Suffolk on the weekend of 9th/10th July.

On the Saturday, we are planning a three-way match between us, Mercia and Middelburg and are looking for 40 Coastal players to take part. Those that have been on the Belgium/Holland trips and those that have played against Mercia in the past will get first option to play as a reward for supporting us. There will be a £5 per player charge for taking part in this event (to Coastal players only) to cover venue costs, prizes/gifts etc. This will be held indoors at The Martley Hall Stud at Easton.

Sunday will be an entirely different format whereby firstly it will be FREE to take part, but the specific format and detail is currently being discussed, and this event will be held at The Meadlands in Stowmarket.

We plan to announce the two venues over this weekend so that people can start to make arrangements.

So that you know, our Dutch friends arrive on Friday and return home on the Monday whilst we believe some of the Mercia team are staying over locally for the weekend itself.

If you want to take part in the Saturday or Sunday or both days, then please email me at [email protected].

Pretend it’s Belgium

As this date would have normally seen us on our annual Belgium trip but again, thanks to Covid, we are having to stay put, we are going to host a melee event in the same format as our Belgium club friends do instead.

This event will see everyone being paired with different random partners and opponents in every round and each player carries their own respective scores through on each round.

The cost to enter is £5 per individual person BUT if you bring along any sort of donated prize, you will receive £2 of your entry fee back. The donated prize can be literally anything you want and the wackier and weirder the better, not just alcohol and chocolates. What happens at some of our Belgium clubs tournaments is that the prize table ends up looking more like a raffle table and at the end of the event, the best overall player gets to pick a prize first, then the runner up and so on, so that every player goes home with a prize. At previous Belgium competitions our players have gone home with pasta, coffee granules, toilet cleaner and spice racks to name but a few…..

We would look to start play at 11am, so if you can be ready to listen to announcements etc by 10.30am at the latest.

Entries must be made via email to [email protected] and payments can be made to our current League account.

Banking details will be provided.

You do not have to be a triples to enter, as the event is an individual one. ITS ALL MEANT TO BE A FUN, SOCIABLE EXPERIENCE AND EVERYONE GOES HOME WITH A PRIZE!!!

The event has a maximum entry limit of 54 players.

(And yes I know the photo is actually of us in Holland rather than Belgium, so no points to anyone for pointing that out!!!)

When two become three

Rather than the usual separate Pairs competition that is run through the summer, this year we are looking at having a Triples competition instead.

The reasoning is that we play pairs in the Summer league, and in the wider Petanque world most competitions are triples based. As those that have played in the Winter League may have discovered, triples can be a different game tactically, so we hope this will expose more people to the format.

Teams can be made up of 3 to 5 players to allow flexibility in playing matches, with matches to be arranged by mutual agreement, although the expectation would be weekday evenings through the spring and summer. The overall league structure will be decided based on number of entries, but each match will be 2 games to 13 points, with 3 points awarded for win and 1 for a draw (with a bonus point for team with the highest aggregate score in the case of a draw).

To enter a team, please email [email protected] with your team players and home piste.
